Iran Yazd Zinc Smelter, located in the middle part of Iran, is about 700 km to the southeast of Tehran, which was designed with a capacity of 28,000t/a zinc, 2000 t/a sulfuric acid zinc and 53,000 t/a sulfuric acid. NFC undertook the design, complete sets of equipment supply, construction and installation, technical assistance of commissioning and training. The project launched in March 1992 and was put into operation in June 2000. The project construction includes zinc concentrator bin, roasting plant, dust collecting section, leaching plant, sulfuric acid plant, pot room, melting and casting plant, zinc powder making, cadmium recovery section, sulfuric acid zinc section, power supply of the smelter, air compressor, lab.
Main process of the project adopts pyrometallurgical and hydrometallurgical method zinc smelting process. The process of double conversion and double absorption was used to absorb sulfur dioxide for fume acid in environment protection. The process is as follows:
Zinc storage, roasting, dust collection, sulfuric acid production, leaching, purification solution, reduction, smelting, zinc powder making, cadmium recovery, sulfuric acid zinc production.
